"How does neuroscience research apply to teaching and learning?"

  1. Neuroscience helps us understand the way the brain works. The brain plays major role in learning. Understanding the functions and processes that take place when learning occurs is beneficial. Dr. Judy Willis (2020) noted that understanding neuroscience is a component that should be included in all teacher education. Acquiring this knowledge, she noted, gives educators the power to “recognize future implications from this rapidly expanding field of research to increase the effectiveness of their teaching and build and sustain students’ joy of learning” (para. 2).

Teachers are tasked with the responsibility of preparing students to become the future leaders, citizens, and workers of our society. Knowing what the best methods and strategies are to help students develop the skills and techniques that are necessary to successfully carry out future roles and duties should be a part of the educators modus operandi. Neuroscience research provides a bridge to the student brain. Educators should cross the bridge of neuroscience and use the information they collect as they trek across, to bridge the gap between effective learning and student success.

  2. In general, learning about the neuroscience will help teacher understand the way students are able to acquire knowledge and help them design lessons to support the students' learning. When teachers are aware of their students' cognitive abilities, they will be able to develop their instruction and differentiated to meeting different styles. In addition, learning about neuroscience help teachers and educator understand the child development. When teachers understand the neuroscience and how the students learn , they will be able to use different strategies and methods to reach them.
